Monster (May)hem 2026

several weeks ago i was reading some posts on Dave's Wargames Terrain Workshop blog page , and he was in the process of adding some terrifying Gnarloc Raiders for i assume is a Kroot army. but i noticed it was for a painting challenge that i did not know about. so i went over to Dead Dick's Tavern and checked out what this challenge was about. for the month of May, this challenge you had to paint a monstrous creature or something big. i thought this challenge would be cool, but unfortunately i didn't really have any big monsters to paint or whatnot. until i remembered i did have some things somewhere. last year i bought a terrain crate from Mantic Games called "the Haunted Manor". and in it was what they called a goliath monstrosity. which basically to me was a chunk of hard plastic in the shape of an eldritch monster of sorts. picking the color scheme for it i didn't want to go with the green i have been doing lately for these Lovecraft creatures. and what c...

journey to Old Hillsbrad Manor - a D&D adventure

this past week our D&D group went on their first quest to find a magic item to relinquish a threat that has a hold on the local town.  i didn't want to throw them a hefty encounter, but i did make it interesting and odd at the same time. taking a short cut through some ruins they come to find out the ruins are covered in spider webs which made the players uneasy. cutting through some ruins, the group takes a shortcut to the manor to save some time before the sun goes down. getting ambushed by several giant spiders. through the trees, Wynze hears some bellowing... an overweight gluttonous troll makes its way to see what's happening.  rolling for the troll's claw attacks, once again another amazing dice roll on my part. Thorgrimm summons some thunder and lightning and connects his warhammer underneath the troll's chin. i got a plastic "hour glass" from the last convention i was at, as a joke to Rita because i always say she takes too long deciding what to do...
