lrn2play: Deth Wizards - story mode

last weekend or so i bought Deth Wizards, a pretty cool game that after watching some
introduction and game-play videos on it, i was surprised how easy i was
able to pick up on it.
i really love how there isn't much to it based on the fact it is an agnostic miniature game.
so i basically had most of what i needed to play.

i might have to get some actual buildings but i do have the "buildings" that i can use for
now from the Tenfold Dungeon "The Town" box set.

so a day or so later i made a quick necromancer character and an undead warband.
i used one of my D&D characters for this game and it's just funny how in D&D
he is actually a wizard of the college of necromancy.
i picked an easy legacy of necromancy to use at first.
i went with the ability to choose undead that are hulks and are a little bit of a tank.

after writing down all the information i need to play a story mode campaign,
i played an introduction game for myself to get the basics down which are fairly easy to learn.
reading some more things in the rulebook and watching the Table Engineer on YouTube,
i felt comfortable giving story mode a try.

the heroes begin to defend a shrine that caught the attention of the
furry harbinger of death.

by the might of a giant zombie, the wizard was taking out first with some help from
spells that was cast from the necromancer.
with a dice roll mechanic that controls the npc's actions of the scenario,
the warriors went in attacking the zombie and the death knight as 1v1.

the giant zombie finally took some damage.
while the other warrior took a defensive stance,
and all the while the priest behind a house was healing and staying put.

but it wasn't long until the priest was found and became a victim of some brutal attacks.

the death knight had to use two turns worth of attacks to bring down this warrior.
the higher the rating of a scenario npc the stronger and tougher they become.

after playing a scenario,
it basically has you go down a list of things to go over to either upgrade your necromancer,
revive undead minions, recruit new ones, or even recruit dead heroes you fought in the
scenario you just played.
and after all that you go to see if your lair is under attack and if you defend it well or not.
i have to say this was a well thought and fun game.

if i did everything correctly,
i earned two experience points towards upgrades and rewards,
my necromancy power increased which is always good,
was able to recruit a vampire to my group and did not have my lair attacked.

my Deth Wizards warband (so far):
Sindarus the Shadowpaw - necromancer,
Marduk Blackpool - vampire,
Festergut (an ogre formally known as Skrag Ironbelly) - giant zombie,
and Lord Alexi Barov - death knight.

even though i went head over heels to do a pirate themed Silver Bayonet game,
this game might be getting most of my attention.
maybe down the road i'll get the Silver Bayonet stuff up and going but until then,
this might be my jam for awhile.
