the Blob: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
a few days ago i made some blobs and oozes mainly for Perilous Tales, but i'll probably find more uses with them in other games. and since i made them i was anxious to play a scenario for Perilous Tales. to see them on the table-top i kept having thoughts from the movie the Blob. panic and hysteria filling the streets of town. in this episode, there was a mysterious meteor that fell from the sky and landed a bit on the other side of town. ever since then weird things have been happening. little globs of ooze have been found all over town, so the heroic party led by Abraham Puckett is charged to investigate and deal with whatever is lurking in the shadows. for this scenario i'm using the beta rules to use the Blob, since it was not included in the final publication of the rules. the objectives are: Kill the Master, Get Evidence, Set the Explosives the perils in the game are: Driven Back, Creeping Horror, Unsteady Underfoot which all were randomly generated. the group begins to w...

the night haunters: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
on this cloudy April day i figured i would get in a game of Perilous Tales since i got the time and nothing to do productively. in this episode the group is trying to find out why it's so quiet and still. the skies are darker than normal and whispers of winged creatures terrorizing the skies. this episode is the night haunters. ( the gargoyles in the rulebook. ) the objectives are: Recover Equipment, Get Evidence, and Rescue the Prisoner. the perils in the game are: Tempted Forward, The Captain, and Disoriented. which all were randomly generated. as usual, began the game using Eagle Eye to take a peep at some threat markers. Mr. Dennis advances towards #7 threat marker and it reveals the "The Lady" McKenzie, which is terrified as she launches herself and attacks. the following turn a parley was successful and she became part of the group. the threat marker William Loomis saw, was one of the two night haunters. i had to think of a tactic to spend the least amount of time t...

the Whateleys: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
after getting away from the giant frog monster, Puckett and company continued cautiously towards the Whateley's homestead. William Loomis told the others the stories he has heard about the Whateley family, and most of it was not good to hear. stories ranging from the many "miscarriages" the poor daughter had to a deformed son that was eventually born and is rarely seen during the day. other stories were told about the countless dead cattle littered across their pasture and how most of the help around the farm is "unfortunate." the episode is the Whateley's. (this scenario is from the rulebook.) the objectives are: Kill the Master, Get Evidence, and Tell Us What You Know. the perils in the game are: Creeping Horror, Putrid Stench, and the Horde. which all were randomly generated. i tried to arrange the terrain to make it seem like the party was approaching the farm house closer than the last game. starting the game with the threat level at a four i rethought ...

the ghost and the darkness: Perilous Tales

Image
back in 2023 i repainted a few plastic lions i got from an animal toy bucket from Wal-Mart and thought it would be really cool to set up a scenario based off the movie "the Ghost and the Darkness." now fast forward today and while i am spending my vacation getting some painting done, i figured i would take a break from my western Perilous Tales campaign and play a fresh game with a home brew scenario. basing it roughly off the movie the two lions are the only villains in the game with many perils to make the game interesting and somewhat of a pain. in a game of Perilous Tales there are five villains and three perils. but since there are only two villains i picked the peril, Utterly Horrible to fill out the rest of the villain list. making characters roll for horror checks throughout the game in my mind gives that uneasy feeling like you are being stalked by these monsters of the jungle. the objectives are: Kill the Master, Get Evidence, and Escape!.  the perils in the game ar...

the giant frog monster: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
since resuming my Perilous Tales campaign with the Wolf Man episode i unintentionally created a mini storyline within my campaign that will feature the infamous Whateley family. as one of the villain scenarios in the rulebook i was so looking forward to creating a western version of them being a Lovecraft fan. but to get there we have to stay on the road that is haunted by creatures and undesirables. the episode is the giant frog monster. ( the swamp fiend from the rulebook. ) the group continues towards the Whateley's farmhouse and soon discovers that there is more here than a reclusive family. gossip around town says that some of those graves are filled with children who didn't make it past their first year or stillborn. just sad. the objectives are: Destroy the Idol, Rescue the Prisoner, and Tell Us What You Know.  the perils in the game are: Creeping Horror, Driven Back, and Mired. which all were randomly generated. using the Eagle Eye trait to spot some minions, the game s...

the wolf man: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
it's been awhile since i have done a Perilous Tales game and i recently got some miniatures done specifically for a game. i also thought it would be kind of cool to have a number of games connected to each others with a specific storyline bringing them together. the episode is the Wolf Man. on the edge of the land owned by the recluse Whateley family, Abraham Puckett and company make their way out from town to make sure everything is on the level. with all the strange occurrences happening around town, Puckett thinks he knows where the source is coming from. the objectives are: Kill the Master, Destroy the Idol, and Set the Explosives. the perils in the game are: Creeping Horror, Utterly Horrible, Earthquake, which all were randomly generated. using William Loomis' skill of Eagle-Eye was able to spot the threat marker that was the main villain werewolf. with some decent dice rolls, was able to take him out in one turn by forming a firing squad. after taking out the werewolf, th...

the ghast: Perilous (western) Tales

Image
a few days ago I got another game of Perilous Tales in this past weekend and this time the main villain was the ghast, which is under the same name in the rulebook. the back story for this game is the group has heard rumors of certain treasures in an old abandoned settlement that was a scene of complete horror.  this episode has reoccurring spawns of spirits once you kill them and that is a pain in the butt when you are trying to clear a way to the objectives. the objectives are: Stop the Ritual, Recover Equipment, and Set the Explosives. the perils in the game are: Disaster Strikes, Driven Back, and The Horde. which all were randomly generated. Mr. Dennis gets a surprise while searching for artifacts in the abandoned settlement. finding the mysterious idol that is planted beside a building, few of the group begins heading towards it. Puckett tests his luck against a few spirits who see him as a threat. the ghast spawns on top of a building and descends down and attacks its ...
