a band of adventurous misfits and more..

Image
this past week i introduced my girlfriend's kids to Dungeons and Dragons. i laid out all the races and classes they could be, and helped them how to read the character sheet and such. i made a small scenario to get their feet wet, and also intertwined their game with kind of what was going on with the other D&D group's campaign. almost having an adult gaming group and the kids gaming group, but running two campaigns along the same story line. a band of back alley misfits just looking for work...or something to steal to get paid. Kara Therwyn - Dragonborn Wizard, Tupac - Tabaxi Ranger, Feldspar Corundum - Dwarf Cleric, Stephan Albrecht - Human Rogue. hopefully there will be many adventures with this band of misfits. if they don't kill each other first. i bought a pack of Wizkids D&D miniatures awhile back and all i wanted in the pack was the wererat. as the package was labeled "Wererat and Weretiger" i was kinda discouraged because i knew painted tiger stri

still cranking out figures from the pile of shame. this time around i wanted to a monster for my D&D campaign or just have one in general. i had spare figures from a Mythic Games board game called Time of Legends: Joan of Arc. first monster i painted was a large cockatrice. i used some artwork for inspiration for a color scheme. i reckon the beast came out okay. the cockatrice with a Wizkids paladin for scale. might go back and redo the cockatrice's wattle. had to look up to see what that area of a rooster was called. a wattle. this dragonborn sorceress is my pride and joy. i wanted a villain in my D&D group to be epic but not TOO epic like in size. when i saw this figure i fell in love. i never saw a dragonborn with wings so i had to get it. and having a female dragonborn with wings and all the grandeur, this was going to be the main antagonist in our campaign. a few zombies from the Undead Encounter plastic set from Mantic Games. these were so nice just like the undead s

into the ruins of the dead: a D&D story

our group of adventurers still making their way towards Ravencrest Manor. coming up on the outskirts of the Manor, is the ruins of an old monastery that became the final resting place for soldiers and men of prayer for sometime. until dark magicians and necromancers made their way into the area and made use of their dark magic on the dead. here are some of the highlight moments... the band of adventurers enter the area cautiously. Grungni knowing much of the past wars recognizes some of the emblems on the tombs. Breena had some trouble climbing up the side of a rock. "Crinkle Shorts" started plotting schemes for riches. as "Crinkle Shorts" begins steal from the dead, Nafaris also looks around. Grungni refuses to disrupt the dead but also takes notice few giant rats and some ghouls surrounding the party. Nafaris gets wounded from a ghoul and becomes paralyzed. as the group takes care of the ghouls, Nanna the Goliath barbarian gets jumped by a wererat that was hiding

still plugging away at the mess of undead miniatures i still have. these skeletons are from the Undead Encounter pack from Mantic Games. i went with a simple color scheme, i didn't want to spend a lot of time on them. the so called leader of the group. with the simple color and shading these came out nicely. i might go back and retouch the eyes, maybe add a green glow or redness in the eye sockets. rest of the group. way these came out i might purchase another pack of these, add more to the more ranks. Beholder Zombie. this fellow was fun to paint. cannot wait to unleash this on my D&D group. (insert evil laugh here) Crawling Claws. wanted to make some low CR creatures for this weekend's game, and since the group is heading to a den of evil what better way than this. made from dismembered hands from an old GW zombie plastic set. last year i came across some board games called Dark World, and the miniatures were pretty cool to use elsewhere in my table top games. so i used t

ghouls, wights, and flies..oh my!

getting ready for another gaming session with my D&D group, i am finishing some really neat undead miniatures. i wanted a nice assortment of undead characters to pick from as we as a group might run into as we travel on our adventure. an ogre zombie. cannot wait for this guy to hit the table. jaws will drop, and a few limbs. a ghast, i gave this fellow a blue tone to have him stand out with the other ghouls. ghouls, and these guys i went with a putrid greenish tone. a necromancer, possibly a named character in the upcoming gaming session. also for our upcoming session which will take place in a manor that has been occupied by a lich for some time now, some Flying Swords and a Death's Head. no matter how hard i tried i couldn't get a good pic of the head. the head is from the classic GW zombie plastic set, and the swords are from the Mantic Games Undead Encounter plastic set. sort of a better pic of the Death's Head. a wight, easiest paint scheme. black with white drybr

bands of heroes and adventurers

with all the D&D figures i've been painting i never got around to take a pic of our gaming group's band of adventurers. this merry band of adventurers are: Nafaris Cresthill - Tiefling Ranger, Grungni Whitebeard - Dwarf Cleric, "Crinkle Shorts" - Gnome Warlock, Breena Clodagh - Elf Druid, Nanna Gunnhild - Goliath Barbarian. many adventures ahead for these five.... along with the miniature that i used for my dwarf cleric, this was also the other dwarf in the pack. since i made Grungni a War Domain cleric, i converted some gear options and made this fellow a Life Domain cleric. i clipped his left arm that originally had a 2h warhammer with a shield from the new Wizkids Dwarf Cleric Frameworks miniature and also the 1h mace that came from the same miniature set. but i replace the head of the mace with a mace head from an old Warhammer Regiment plastic sprue. i named this character Ulric Falstad. found some Ral Partha Axe Beaks that i got from last year. i painted a f

some time ago i ordered several pieces of 3d printed terrain from a company called Ender Toys off of Amazon. pretty nice product, not much cleaning or what not. to hide the majority of the print lines and such i used Mod Podge spray. gave the terrain pieces two or three sprays and left to dry for a day or two. then went over with a flat black prime coat, then used a Granite Gray from Apple Barrel paints for the dry brushing. Valkia and her mage apprentices searching for a lost relic. took some Games Workshop graveyeard tombs and created a ruin mausoleum of some sort. a necromancer and cohort are trying to raise the spirit of the long dead warrior... with some ghouls haunting the grounds. a fearless dwarf fighter faces off an Orc barbarian. Victory or Death!! as i was writing this post i was finishing up the last few pieces of the ruins. with two of them i sawed and glued back together into T-sections, so i wouldn't have just straight pieces all over the place. come to think of it,
