tribal characters for D&D....and pulp

Image
continuing working on the tribal miniatures from the Solomon Kane: Against the Vampires board game set. also converting more figures to 1.5mm bases. and then here and there in between i've been writing and rewriting campaign adventures for our new upcoming campaign. i always figured this miniature would be the overall ruler of whatever i would use these tribesmen. the witch doctor. at first i forgot to paint the face and once i went out to spray the figure with a varnish i saw it and thought it kinda looks better with the white. almost looks like a painted skull. giant rats from GW's classic Necromunda game, that had 3mm bases and reverted to 1.5mm. in Dungeons and Dragons i could use these as diseased plague rats, maybe with a small increase in hit points.   the champion. large muscular brute armed with a huge two-handed sword with gold threaded in and out and around the blade of the weapon. i thought of this fellow as being a spellcaster of some sorts like a shaman. i wante...

assorted characters for D&D

haven't been doing much of any painting, just redoing bases to my wild west figures and several fantasy miniatures. i did start painting the miniature that were in the Solomon Kane board game expansion, Against the Vampires, i got awhile back. "KILL THE BEAST!" Negari Warriors from the Solomon Kane game. these are a tad bigger than Wizkids miniatures but they work as a tribe of some sort or even primitive Goliaths. since they are of the same sculpt i twisted and turn the hand with the sword in a way to make them all different in some way. "what are you, you foul creature?!" Autolycus questioned with his swords readied. "I am an architect of fate, a changer of ways, to some i am a lord of change."  finally got around painting a Scarsfell Griffon warbeast from Privateer Games. when painting this figure i used the slapchop method like i did with the 3d printed Orcus model ways back. a friend gave me make-up brushes which is suggested to use for slapchop,...

several more misc. miniatures for D&D

was on vacation last week and got to a point where i got a bit bored. in the middle of that boredom i was watching a few episodes of DMScotty on Youtube and started to have the creative juices flowing once again. saw a video on how to make your very own gelatinous cube and thought well i got some time on my hands maybe i'll give it a go and try to make one. group of heroic adventurers finds a gelatinous cube in a sunken temple. using the instructions in DMScotty's video i mae my a little bit bigger because i used a common land  card from my Magic: the Gathering collection, in case for some reason the card got damaged. the cude is about 2inch x 2inch and roughly 3 or so inches higher, easily able to cover enough space to trap (depending on miniatures) two to three, maybe four depending on how the miniatures are sculpted.   awhile ago i was given some extra miniatures from the Mythic Games Solomon Kane: Against the Vampire box set. i took the giant snake from it and gave it a qu...

claws, talons, and that beak: giant griffon

Image
another model from the Mythic Games board game, Time of Legends: Joan of Arc. this time around i took the huge griffon. i do not own a griffon figure from Wizkids but i'm sure this fellow is a little bigger than the offical griffon miniature. gave this monstrous beast a 1.5mm base so it matches rest of my D&D collection, with some texture and a small pebble for some character. i used GW Citadel paints for it. base coat of Space Wolves Grey contrast paint, did about 3/4 of the wings and the head with Corax White and did some drybrush also with the Corax on the feathers on the body. Kislev Flesh for the beak. the base like all my D&D miniatures was done with GW Citadel Technical paint, for a texture instead of using sand like i do with my miniatures that are mounted on 3mm bases. i use a base coat of Armageddon Dust, then a touch up and base edges with Citadel color called XV-88. i do a smaller touch up with Pewter Grey from Apple Barrel and finally a nice drybrush with Gran...

"what you want?!"

Image
" You come to learn, you want to know the magik, the dark magik? what you want?! infliction or affliction?! " finished another exciting leg of our D&D campaign last night, and as usual the adventuring party had to meet a very important and large character to direct them in the path they must travel to complete their quest. now for myself, i like to create characters that goes against the grain and so unusual things or even create unusual characters to further my stories in my D&D adventures. this time the heroic party had to cross paths with an ogre mage to aid them in their quest to stop a mad man of a necromancer. with ogres not known to be very smart, i wanted something different, but i knew i wouldn't find an ogre mage figure anytime soon.. so i took another large figure from the Time of Legends: Joan of Arc game i had sitting around and redid the base and clipped the head of his staff and swapped it with a animal skull from the Citadel Skulls set from Games W...

new additions for my fantasy collection

Image
been wrapping up my D&D group's first leg of our campaign and haven't done much painting here of late. but i did managed to get a few done. saw this Skyboat way back in late April and wanted to bring out on the table at the right time. started and finish this fellow this past week and everyone loved it once it hit the table. this huge genie was from the Time of Legends: Joan of Arc game from Mythic Games. he originally was holding a flying carpet and carrying others, but i clipped that off and replace it with hands from old plastic Skaven hands. (originally model from the board game) the genie next to a 25mm human rogue miniature. several weeks ago bought a pack of human bards. and thought way this fellow is i want him to be like a badass bard. like badass like not a normal bard. badass like he plays his lute heavy and hard.
