the ghost of Sir Maldred, the Red Dragon

Image
several months ago i was running my first D&D campaign and the party found themselves in a haunted manor with a ogre mage within the halls. but within the nooks and grannies there was a few spirits who haunted the library. fast forward into a new campaign i wanted to not have so many undead or dead encounters but i couldn't resist myself. the other night i was thinking of an encounter and wanted a ghost in it but not just any ghost, i wanted like a ghost that would make the jaws drop. so i took a plastic Grail Knight from the classic GW Bretonnia line and painted it like i did my other spirits few months ago. same painting scheme, white base coat primer, watered down light blue, and then a dry brush of white. glued a clear plastic flying stand underneath to give it a floating effect. the heroic band of warriors comes across the ghostly spirit of Sir Maldred, a disgrace knight who lived in excess and corruption, but most feared on the battle field. so recently in our D&D cam

spellcasters and orcs!

Image
this past weekend i got a chance to see the new Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie and in my opinion it was fun. not award winning but fun and enjoyable. and afterwards was inspired to get several figures completed for a D&D session this that saturday night. after some time now i started painting this wizard figure but never really finished it. but thinking how my gaming session was going to unfold, i needed a magic user after all. i wanted a wereraven figure for some time now. recently finished the human form of the wereraven character pack. had these two orcs and noticed they didn't look right with the Wizkids Frameworks orc plastic set, so i painted them with red skin just like my classic warhammer orcs i did many months ago. another human bard, you can't have too many of these. this fellow's sword was bent really bad so i carefully lit it with a lighter and cooled it with cold water to melt and bend it back into place. lately i been watching the John Wi

statues, monuments and more for tabletop

Image
been making some statues for scatter pieces of terrain out of miniatures that either i have no use for or just doesn't fit in my collections i got going at the moment. most of the miniatures that i am using as scatter pieces were from the hobby haul i got few years back. one of the coolest monuments i wanted to do was using an old but cool as hell Death Dealer miniature from Ral Partha from 1977. added him to a 50mm base with a black base coat and a few generous coats of FolkArt Antique Gold paint. then attached to a ice tea bottle top and finally glued to a jewelry box. pics of the Death Dealer before being modified into a statue. also came across a Skeletor miniature out of a 1983 set from Grenadier Models. it wasn't in scale with what MotU figures i already have so i just made it into a fearsome statue. this statue of a vampire of sorts. not sure the miniature company that made this but it is nice.   for sometime now i wanted to get an additional 3x3 game mat for smaller ga

D&D: one year later

Image
this past year has seen it's fair share of ups and downs. but nothing compares to the moment i opened for the first time a Dungeons and Dragons player's handbook and began a journey that i didn't think it would last this long. and it doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon... all started around this time last year when Wiley Games was releasing their FFoL: Fantasy tabletop rule book. and i was looking for a cheap way to collect a variety of different miniature for the new game. i took to Wizkids and looked into their D&D miniature line. i picked up several packs of different classes and races ranging from spell casters to fighters, from human and elves to gnomes and of course dwarves. after a while i was curious about D&D, being i never played it..ever. bought a starter set box and some dice, chatted to some friends from work and sometime in april or may we had our first game. we got many things incorrect but that's learning. and now one year later, i have

the Count's Trans-Serbian Renegades

Image
had these for some time now but never got around to doing a post on them. these are the Count Casamir's Trans-Serbian Renegades from Bob Murch/Pulp Figures. i will admit post WW1 and pre-WW2 russia era i am not too sure on history, so i am not totally sure why these fellows are renegades but whatever they seem like a nice group characters to run a pulp game with. the Count Chernikov Kasamir and his Trans-Serbian Renegades. the Count Chernikov Kasamir and his faithful hound, Bella. ( not sure where the dog figure is from. ) the Count's right hand man, Anatoliy Damir and Father Dimitri Rasputin. the religious character is a figure from i think Artizan Designs. Igor, the Count's faithful bodyguard and comrade, and the Countess Angelina Oksana Kasamir. ( the Countess didn't have anything in her right hand so i carefully clipped it off and replaced it with a spare hand w/ handgun from Pulp Alley weapon pack i was grateful to get a hold of. ) i kind of want to get some WW1 r

mercenaries and spellcasters

Image
another group of miniatures painted and done. some are duplicates from before just with either minor conversions or painting schemes. haggard looking group of mercenaries. this dwarf cleric is based off the the D&D 5e tempest domain subclass. specialty in lightning damage. a werebear and a wereboar. here are two reasons why i love the Wizkids D&D miniature line. so if i play other fantasy skirmish games i can field a werebear welding a huge axe. this barbarian originally had a mace but i wasn't really feeling it. so i clipped it and added a spare sword from the bits box, making it like a two-handed sword. another kenku, this time around i assume this little fellow will be a rogue/assassin. while playing a druid for sometime now, my girlfriend Rita seems to cast more spells than actually shapeshifting into beast shapes as a druid does. so i showed her another aspect of the druid class in the D&D 5e book, Circle of Wildfire where you seem to focus on fire damage and able
