the madness has begun..

recently we started a new adventure with our D&D group and i really wanted to do something different as far as encounters with NPC's and monsters alike. i've been reading a lot of H.P. Lovecraft lately and i wanted to play out some of the stories that i read here as of late. the back story of the Necronomicon really intrigues me, so i went and found several arab miniatures from a box of plastic arab spearmen/archers and made my own "Mad" Abdul Alhazred. with the two sets of the temple from Tenfold Dungeons and the recently ordered Lovecraftian monsters from WotC, i am excited to see how everyone reacts to what i have in stored for everyone. and also with such figures on hand i can play some really interesting pulp games. within the ruins of whats left of a temple, Alhazred begins reading from tattered pages from an ancient tome. slowly losing his mind in the process. continuing redoing the bases of my miniature collection. i need more camels. the oozes i'm us...

Jafar Alhazred

Image
for some time now i purchased the miniature wanting him to be a leader for my faction of assassins and cultists known as the League of the Thousands Sons. but never posted any pics once i had him painted. he is from Reaper Miniatures labeled as Aziz Al-Jawar, human sorcerer, sku #02426. right off the back i used the Disney character Jafar as a reference for painting this miniature. i didn't keep the original name that Reaper labeled him, i went with Jafar Alhazred, keeping the first name of the Disney character, also using the last name of the character from H.P. Lovecraft's stories, Abdul Alhazred. "Over there, do you see it!?" "is it real?" "Grant me such powers, I command it!!"

the League of Thousand Sons

to coincide with my Knights of the Crescent Moon, i ordered some Gripping Beast Arab spearmen and archers plastic sprues from Ebay. i painted a few with firearms, but in the future i might go with some bows and hand weapons. i do want to create some characters. i did make up one but the miniature is not it's final model. even though there is not much to guard above ground, appearances are deceiving. ladders are used so it isn't easy to enter the area. the proxy of a character i created called the Black Scorpion. once i get the proper miniature for this character i will reuse and rename this figure. with each plastic sprue there were two hooded head options, all of the members of the League of Thousand Sons have their faces hidden. atop of the main building, statue of the mythical Manticore.

Villagers

Image
along with the clergymen, i also completed the villagers. the villagers are from Gripping Beast Miniatures and some are Black Tree Design miniatures. trying to stay within the requested color scheme, i did a lot of mixing colors for a dull and poor look. i did tell my friend i was gonna do one red headed. i call her the little harlot in the group.

Clerics and the Holier than Thou

more for my one friend i am painting miniatures for. this time i was able to start and finish in a few days, about 14 miniatures. i started first on the clergymen. these clergy miniatures are from Gripping Beast Miniatures. all the villagers and clergy are painted with Apple Barrel paints, except for the skin color. i used Citadel Paint: Ungor Flesh for that. i kept a "uniformed" color scheme, i went with a dark ivy green. with the priest i went a red with black wash over top. went back with some highlights with a dull mauve color.

Ogres

Image
finished up ogres for my friend. these ogre miniatures are from Gripping Beast miniatures. was asked to keep them in some what of same skin tone, which wasn't hard, but the last one i did was sculpted as it had a lot of hair/fur all over his body. so i just painted it as if it had lots of hair.  primed with Mechanicus Standard Gray this one particular ogre reminded me of Eddie from Iron Maiden least in the face way it was sculpted and i teased my friend i was gonna paint like a skull on the face and stuff. i got a stern no in response.
