hoard of randomness

Image
just another hoard of finished miscellaneous figures and such that got done recently. i painted four rippler bugs of the mega swarm plastic box set from the Starship Troopers miniature game. went with a sinister reddish pink color scheme with a bright red underside. i have another four to paint but i am thinking of doing them in a green, give them a more alien feel to them. few ghosts i managed to base and paint using only a white primer, very very light blue watered down paint and went over and did little, highlights with a white. then a bath in Nuln Oil. a color scheme i don't use a lot. back in november, while i was sick i managed to put together another set of two planes i came across this past fall. i named this plane the "Fighting Cock" i was super excited when i came across this gem. the Red Baron's Fokker Dr.I most of my games are around the mid 1920's to maybe early 40's, so most likely it would be out of place to have this on the table but you never ...

Blaster Rifles and Cold Blood - Fistful of Lead

Image
about a month ago a member of the Wiley Games facebook page, posted pics and a small summary of a game they did using Fistful of Lead: Galactic Heroes and FFoL: Fantasy rules. and reading the post and checking out the pics it tickled a creative bone inside me. they had space orks crash onto a medieval planet, and had to collect spilled oil around the table while fighting off the inhabitants of the land. having been working on my lizardmen, i figured i'll use them as the primitive inhabitants of the land and use my recently finished Brotherhood figs from Warzone game from the 90's. just a basic game nothing much. search and destroy and kill one another. i knew it was gonna be one sided but i had high hopes. layout of the table. the inquisitive Brotherhood, looking to spread the word. the lizardmen a few shots, and made an archer shaken. the Brotherhood forms a line of defense. trying to regroup, one takes off running. the lizardmen on the move. the archers advance but gets take...

market bazaar objective markers

Image
so back in May of this year i ordered pieces of scatter terrain for my middle eastern table top set. with the tents and some Egyptian statues, i also got some market bazaar items. in the set there are pieces that are together and then there is separate pieces. i painted the clumped pieces first and then held on to the separated pieces for something else down the road. the clumped scatter pieces. the piece with the skulls originally had a hookah on it but the way it was printed i didn't like it so i clipped it off and glued some skulls on there to make it seem like there are some mysterious finds to be have. the skulls are from the 300ct. skull pack that is from Games Workshop. (notice the orc skull, haha!!) i glued the separated pieces to some flat 25mm and 32mm bases. i painted the base black to represent the pieces as an objective markers and such. figured this would be a good way to tell the quest objectives and terrain pieces apart. the one piece that is a basket that originall...

mummies, cultists and rats..oh my! - Fistful of Lead

Image
over the past weekend Rita and i were messing around with the newly painted ancient mummy miniatures i did of the previous week. we were using the Fistful of Lead and with a mix of rules from Tales of Horror and little bit of Galactic Heroes. i had several pieces of my dungeon tiles already out on the table, and i made up a quick adventure for her to try to find some ancient treasures inside the tomb of the lost pharaoh. we opened our adventure with the exploring team entering the tomb, looking for long lost treasures and artifacts. Harrison Jones leads the team down into the tomb, and encounters large rats. having trouble killing the other rat, the whole enters the tomb and corners the rat. Hando and Jones checks into an adjacent area and came across more rats and some unbroken clay jars and unusual skulls. the professor and the renowned hunter, Lucian Van Pelt looks into the opposite room and found members of the Order of the Chromatic Tomb. they were able to take out one cultist. Ri...

more Lizardmen!

Image
a few years ago a good friend gave me some lizardmen miniatures from Reaper Miniatures and i thought they were the coolest. and after that i was planning on ordering more to make a nice tribe of them for fantasy or pulp or whatever. overtime i had other projects pop up and pretty much pushed the lizardmen aside for a bit. but several months ago i was able to come across more lizardmen. but with such other projects on hand i only am now getting them painted. several lizardmen armed with spears and one hand weapons and shield, also few archers which is nice. but recently there was a certain miniature i kinda wanted as my leader of this tribe of cold-blooded reptiles. and so just last week i ordered a lizardman tyrant and a shaman, for a little spellcasting presence on the table. sometime i'll write up some kickass names for these guys. these are just too cool not to have killer names. the lizardman tyrant. the lizardman shaman. i used the same method of painting these fellows as i di...

the ancient tombs begin to stir..

Image
over the last few months i have been collecting here and there pretty much anything related to mummies. but overall more and more i play within the pulp 1920-30's..and sometimes early 40's, in the middle eastern setting i have been stretching out and wanting to do some ancient Egyptian adventures. i did have three mummies from an old Dark World board game, but to me having three in the same pose was kinda lame. so i got me a nine pack of Reaper Miniatures mummies. three different poses and nine..i am quite please with it all. Pharaoh Khem-hotep II and his wife Shukura. a fair and just ruler of the land of the Nile. was assassinated by his general, Merka-neshu which started somewhat of a civil unrest. Khem-hotep II knew he couldn't defeat the general because Merka-neshu had the loyality of the army. the royal high priest, Nefer-amen, who was executed by Merka-neshu, for still being loyal to the royal court even after the death of the Pharaoh. it was Nefer-amen who secretly ...
