new D&D adventure begins...

few weekends ago we started a new campaign of Dungeons and Dragons,
with our friend/group member Jon taking the helm as dungeon master.

not knowing what or how we were starting this time around was sort of the
exciting part for me as a player.

with Jon as the DM i left it up to him for the responsibilities of providing us a board
to play on and miniatures for us to battle with.
and i have to admit way things came out and looked,
it gave off an old school vibe feeling.

at times i did provide miniatures if he didn't have certain kinds of creatures
or terrain features on hand.

Jon scratch built tiles using spackle and cardboard with printed tiles.
even though they didn't look polished and professionally made,
still gave off a good vibes.
reminded me of my 40k days back in the late 90's playing on a modular set-up
with buildings and structures covered in spackling and putty.

as the game opened up we found ourselves locked up with other
characters we did not know and our gear were stripped from us,
so we had to find our stuff.

ran into several goblins armed with swords and short bows.
don't mess with a tortle monk who's trying to find his quarterstaff.
good times.

among the miniatures Jon was using he had an assorted collection of figures.
from Wizkids to WotC to even old school Warhammer fantasy.
i was damn near in awe seeing these old plastic goblins...

and of course i had to break out a story or two about how cool those were
back in the days.

came across some chests with some clues on where we were, some useful items like
healing potions and a magical book of sorts.
as there was some disagreements taking place, Autolycus was jumped by giant rats.

after some time we ran into some gnolls.

despite some trust issues between the tortle monk and the former fugitive
that is the harengon rogue, they do seem to show great teamwork taking out
dangerous foes.

(we made some initiative tokens out of clothes pins to make it easier to keep track of
everyone's place in initiative.
as Lindsey here is making hers and Jon's character tokens.
gotta add some arts and crafts somehow
)

as a group we unsuspectingly ran into a few gelatinous cubes.
this was a pain in the ass encounter....

...and then big giant bats swooped down and attacked us.

hoping to find our way out of this dank place.

i have high hopes for this campaign because i can only imagine
what Jon will think of and how it will tie in with my next campaign once
we finish this one.
