the abandoned wagon: a D&D story
a band of unlikely heroes are summoned together by the Royal Court,
to find the sacred dwarven runestones that were thought to be lost and forgotten
for some time now to the general populace.
a dark mage taken a liking into them and has killed, or least tried to for them,
where one of the runestones has landed into the possession of the Elf druid.
been directed to travel southwest of a small fishing community,
there they will find an old friend of the royal quartermaster and information
on the whereabouts of the other runestones.
they begin their travels on the main stretch of road out of the capital.
and after sometime they come across what appears to be a meaningless murder
or something else more sinister.
on the side of the road path,
a ransacked wagon and few bodies on the ground.
the party investigates....
one of the dead was wearing an old set of armor, as if it was past down
to him from father to son.
the Tiefling ranger settled next to one of the females and lightly touched her forehead,
the female victim became revived and began to speak..
"we didn't kill them all....."
the druid noticed something stirring under the wagon, two small jackals.
one was defensive and frightful of the druid and the other one was shy towards the ranger.
the Gnome warlock climbed upon the edge of a small mesa to look out and about.
and from above three Jackalweres made their presence known.
the Gnome warlock cast an Eldritch Blast to the rocky cliff to make the Jackalweres fall.
the third one so zealous leaped over the damaged cliff losing it's footing and falling
in front of the Gnome.
Jackalweres stood up and become target of the Goliath barbarian.
the Dwarf cleric gets up top of the wagon to get a better view of the furry bastards.
the Jackalweres gave the barbarian a beating.
(bad dice rolling was the problem at this moment of the session, i felt bad
for the barbarian player.)
the Tiefling crept behind one of the Jackalweres and stabbed it with her shortsword.
the Dwarf cleric cast some radiant spell towards one of the Jackalweres and killed it,
the Elf druid cast Iceknife which shattered small ice shards everywhere.
which in turn indirectly killed the Goliath barbarian.
with the one Jackalwere the Gnome was fighting himself,
he took the butt of his staff and laid into it's throat and suffocated the creature.
all the party members gathered around the fallen barbarian.
the dwarf cleric knew there is still life in her to fight once more,
and cast Spare the Dying.
the party set up camp for the night,
few taking turns healing the wounded.
in the morning they continue their travels to Ravencrest Manor,
and meet a powerful wizard who might know a thing or two about
the dwarven runestones.
to be continued....
