the ghost and the darkness: Perilous Tales
back in 2023 i repainted a few plastic lions i got from an animal toy bucket from
Wal-Mart and thought it would be really cool to set up a scenario based off
the movie "the Ghost and the Darkness."
now fast forward today and while i am spending my vacation getting some painting done,
i figured i would take a break from my western Perilous Tales campaign and
play a fresh game with a home brew scenario.
basing it roughly off the movie the two lions are the only villains in the game with
many perils to make the game interesting and somewhat of a pain.
in a game of Perilous Tales there are five villains and three perils.
but since there are only two villains i picked the peril, Utterly Horrible to fill out the rest
of the villain list.
making characters roll for horror checks throughout the game in my mind gives that
uneasy feeling like you are being stalked by these monsters of the jungle.
the objectives are: Kill the Master, Get Evidence, and Escape!.
the perils in the game are: Raging Storm, Thousand Cuts, and Unsteady Underfoot.
which all were randomly generated somewhat.
some perils and objectives wouldn't have been right for this scenario so i
tried to randomly pick better ones.

layout of the table.
a 2x2 gaming area with an area off to the right for dicing rolling.

using Eagle Eye to find the first lion which is located straight up the middle,
i figure i need to reveal some threat markers to create a good area to find these beasts.
it feels good starting the game with the threat level so low.

with a few threat markers revealing it was time to reveal the first lion.
and this boy hits hard, dealing 11 wounds right out of the gate to a member of the party.

having one fellow fail a horror check isn't bad.
i got lucky with those rolls.

giving my leader the Brute trait is a must when it comes to melee actions.
i take it every time i play this game.
boosting a skill 4 to a skill 7 for melee...yes please!

the second lion was revealed just as the first one was dealt with.
with the majority of the threat markers revealed this fight became what i intended.

a wasted round of melee combat and giving the second lion another chance at
killing a few party members.

the lion dealt seven wounds to one fellow but it was the next turn that i was able to
take down the lion.
i was able to achieve the objective of Get Evidence and was able to have my leader to be
able to reach the villain table edge to score points of the Escape! objective.
with all the points i racked up i earned an A+, which i never got before.
maybe i made the scenario too easy.
but overall it was fun to play.
Great fun.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how you adapted a film to the game, pretty successfully by the sounds of it.
Do you have any plans to do any more films?
