...the hills have eldritch eyes..

several months ago i purchased a few wild west gaming items and when i got this idea to
create a western theme Perilous Tales campaign i needed something that would resemble
the Whateley family from the lore of H.P. Lovecraft.
i was not sure where to find such an obscure collection of figures, especially for a western
theme but i looked high and low.
i looked at other game systems and found that Dracula's America had a great selection of
horror themed miniatures that i wasn't even aware of.
so i got the box set of the Church of Dagon miniatures, which basically screams Lovecraft
in the name.

after looking over what the set had i knew this was perfect for what i needed
for Perilous Tales.
the old father, the mysterious daughter, the deformed son, and even some
not so well looking fellows.
all i needed was the "Dunwich Horror" but i had a spare alien figure from my discarded
Zombicide Invaders board game.

several of the followers of Old Whateley.

Old Whateley and Lavinia Whateley, with a few summoned eldritch familiars.

the miniature on the right i would say would be Wilbur Whateley.
even though some of the descriptions vary between authors,
i made this figure my Wilbur.
he is the most grotesque and deformed that most of the other figures.
when i went to paint these i didn't want them to have flesh color skin, almost wanted to
go with a pale but off-rotting color shade.
the Lavinia Whateley figure i wanted to stick to the original description of her as pale like an
albino woman but the color i used came out a little bit darker than i wanted.
and also now with this set i have a group i can use for Dracula's America if i do get into that.
i have a rulebook pdf but i need an expansion book to use these folks.
maybe down the road in 2026 i'll give it a go and try it out.
Ooo, lovely looking folk and their gribbly pets.
ReplyDeleteI like North Star minis, not too much detail that they become a chore to paint, but plenty of character (Crooked Dice are similar).
You've done a great job on these.
thank you very much.
DeleteI do agree North Star does make great minis.
These fit the criteria perfectly for wild west with a dash of Lovecraft, and your painting has given them lots of character. If your stuck looking for models for these games, try Etsy and tap in Weird Wild West in the search bar.
ReplyDeletethanks man.
DeleteI'll give it a look around see what Etsy has to offer.
