lrn2play: Ruthless 1v1

few years back i came across a tabletop game called Ruthless, a wild west skirmish game
with literally 2 pages worth of rules, to me that sounds great.
a simple game with simple rules with lots of potential fun to be had.

over the two years since i found Ruthless i've been distracted with other games, pile of shame
to be dealt with, and the Dungeons and Dragons group.

on a rare occasion Rita and myself were able to spend a few days off from work together and
i took the opportunity to show her Ruthless and in the end we had a fun time.

to make it simple we both had four figures equally armed.
two had revolvers, one person had a shotgun, and another with a repeating rifle.
Rita played the group of characters i made for my ongoing Perilous (western) Tales campaign.
i played as a group of outlaws looking to take out her leader and rob the local bank
or attempt to.

a fellow sneaking along the general store front,
while a confrontation is at hand in the alley.

my sharpshooter lady trying to take out the few that are taking cover at the end of
town square.

smoking barrels from all sides.
at this point Rita was rolling good hitting my guys but no damage was dealt.
after a few failed attempts at taking my guys out she was ranting,
"this is bullshit, i hit them but no effect,...bullshit"
(i told her i was gonna quote her on the blog, she smiled.)

my gang leader up top of the bank looking to take care of some problems.

my lady with the rifle in the middle of town square trying to clean house but just not
getting the job done.

shotgun blasts and a few rounds of fisticuffs.
results of two unconscious gunmen and a wounded man who isn't afraid of a
woman with a gun.

trying to gun down a target below, my gang leader takes quite a bit of damage for his effort.

there were a few rules we forgot to do or remember but in the end we decided Rita won,
based on how many wounds each person had and unconscious people we each had.

by mid game i could see Rita's competitive side come out and at that point i knew she
was enjoying herself with the game.
every time i introduce her to a new game i'm always afraid she won't like it but when i
know that the competitive side clicks on, she's getting into it and enjoying it like i do.

  1. Excellent sounding game, and especially the comments from Rita ! LOL sounds like the wounding may need tweaking to hit that many times and not do damage, but I guess you do keep your models on the table longer ! LOL

    1. it is a fun game.
the wounding aspect isn't bad it just when you're rolling the same result every time instead of something you really want, it gets out of hand.

  2. Great to read about a game I'd never heard of. Fantastic quotes too.
Perhaps some modifers on the wound rolls if a mini has been hit multiple times? But I guess that's what the wounds are for.

    1. thanks,.if u get certain wounds your movement or even shooting is limited or if more severe wounds you can't perform certain actions or just become unconscious until you are revived.
i do say there should be better modifiers for really close range shooting, but i play games way they were written.
