little bit of D&D

spent the last few weeks building miniatures and setting time aside to begin painting.
i am kind of excited about what i have planned to get painted and finished.
a few wild west buildings, a handful of fantasy figures, and most certainly the ever lasting
MotU collection i have been cracking at for the past year or so.

in between working and messing around with this and that, i have been looking at some agnostic
tabletop games so of course i built some miniatures for those games.
one game i am looking forward to is Forbidden Psalm. i know it's been out for a while and
i know of it but never looked into it until now.

recently a former group member got in touch with me and we chatted, one thing led to another
and we chatted about Dungeons and Dragons and the old campaign sessions.
he told me about some life changes and a light bulb went off.

i asked about his character he was running in our old campaign and was curious if he wanted
to rejoin with the group we had running right now.

a few weeks ago we all got together and played a simple session and everyone had a great time.
so i asked Jon if he could see himself coming back as a "full-time" character and he said
he enjoyed himself.

so we shifted some campaign ideas to introduce his bronze dragonborn paladin, Mystan.
i went to Rita and said to her after that session and said how good it felt having Jon back,
and she agreed.
now i am looking forward to each D&D session with more excitement now knowing a group of
treasure hunting misfits will have  a devoted paladin within their ranks.

we did have some messed up shenanigans taking place to where our tiefling sorcerer's soul
was pulled from his body and became lifeless.
so i had him create a new character so Dale could still participate.
and he came up with a kobold fighter who is very good with a shortbow.


Helmsley Whispercreek and Henley Ravenfoot.
Helmsley Whispercreek is a male halfling with proficient skills of the shortbow,
Henley Ravenfoot is also a male halfing that is a rogue/fighter multiclass. 

i created and made figures for these characters a few years ago but i wanted them to look
better then the originals.
these are Wildspire Miniatures.


a loyal mastiff.

i wanted to have a companion figure for Henley because in our D&D story he originally had a
white furred wolf, then recon'd into a white spotted wolf spider but that didn't sit well with
me afterwards.
so i found a mastiff figure in a box of shame,
so i painted it up quickly before our recent session and explained to everyone what i did.
i named the mastiff Ambrosius, after the dog mount of Sir Didymus from the
1986 film, Labyrinth.

hopefully i can keep this momentum going and get more stuff done.
i just have so much i want to accomplish in what seems like little time.

    I always enjoy your D&D stuff. Lucky players. It's great how friendships develop around the game.

    There should be plenty of interesting roleplaying opportunities adding a paladin to a group of, essentially, tomb robbers. What god do they follow?
    The Wildspire halflings look good, I'm just starting to investigate these.

    All this and a shout out to Labyrinth too. Excellent.

      this group is gonna be fun to run with, the paladin follows Bahamut, so yeah i
      ts gonna be fun.
      we are ran into some morale challenges.

      Wildspire Miniatures are really nice. a little cleaning involved but still nice figures.

      Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies. everytime its on, ill watch it. I'll still sing the songs as im watching. hah.

      My current group has two paladins; one following Kord and one following Bahamut. Add in a cleric of The Raven Queen and it's an interesting mix.

      I'm using the World Axis setting from 4E days, although we use 5E rules. The Raven Queen is very neutral rather than a death goddess (partly because the other gods didn't want her to have too much power, not after what Nerul tried). We're using the Grave domain.

    Great you were able to bring an old player and friend into the current group, and great characters for them to use.

      thanks. it was great having a friend rejoin.
      the halflings are my characters that basically everyone else cannot stand. lol.
      I play Henley as an annoying assassin and Hemsley as an arrogant fellow who thinks he is a gift to the females. haha.

i came across another hobby challenge hosted by Dave over at Wargames Terran Workshop , this time around it is getting terrain built, painted, and on the table-top during the month of July. and of course here i am waiting until the last minute. waiting for bills and other real life situations to play out i finally was able to order some wild west buildings from Atomic Laser Cut Designs through Amazon. when i placed that order the estimated time arrival was going to be August 1st. but lucky me i got it on the 25th. i purchased a hotel just because i wanted to add some height to the table for my wild west table-top and a mortician shop, mainly for a scenario for Perilous Tales. the hotel was interesting to build. the cursed Ozomatli: Perilous (western) Tales

i had so much fun few days ago playing Perilous Tales i swapped out terrain pieces and  set up a new game. i also updated the roster sheet with new experience points, traits, and skill points for a new game eager to play. love how it only takes one good idea to invigorate the interest of playing solo games again with little time i have to spare with work and all. the episode is the cursed Ozomatli. ( the Mummy from the rulebook. ) the group has come across some ruins of some sort of temple or point of worship of a bygone civilization and is rumored to have some precious artifacts to be had. the objectives are: Kill the Master, Destroy the Idol, and Get Evidence.  the perils in the game are: Unsteady Underfoot, Utterly Horrible, Earthquake,  which all were randomly generated. the group spreads out and gets a visual of what is what. like usual using William Loomis' Eagle Eye trait to take a peek at some threat markers. knowing what threat markers are i starting to reve...

the thing in the town: Perilous (western) Tales

awhile back i had an idea of playing Perilous Tales but instead of 1930's pulp, play the game in a western setting. taking the villain scenarios and reverting them to a wild west feel was the fun part, like instead of the mad scientist and his monster i thought of a crazed undertaker and his undead. with this scenario instead of remaking scenes from the movie The Thing, i took the same idea but just placed it in a western. but with this great idea of doing Perilous Tales in the wild west setting, i figured i'll run a campaign serial out of it all.  the Dennis family (Mrs. and Mr. Dennis, and Rita Lynn), Abraham Puckett, and William Loomis. the episode is the Thing in the town. ( the Thing in the Ice from the rulebook. ) some strange things have taken place in town recently, and Mr. Jenkins from the hardware store has been acting pretty weird also. the objectives are: Leave No Stone Unturned, Recover Equipment, and Set the Explosives. the perils in the game are: Disaster Strikes...
