making the best of it

after i thought i completed this year's Season of Scenery challenge,
i went on to paint several miniatures for D&D but learned that the challenge
ran through September.
i was gonna order some more pieces for my wild west set-up but real life had to get in the way.
work schedule once again and then a sick girlfriend, i basically put everything on hold.

then we were able to get back together to resume our D&D campaign and i only noticed
well it's damn near the end of the month.
and in between everything else, whatever time i had i tried to get something
accomplished and it also didn't help that i was getting interested in a new
table-top game, Forbidden Psalm.

this past week when we got together to play Dungeons and Dragons,
i gave Rita full control of creating a manor for the group of adventurers to explore.
she was surprised i did this but i was just too tired from work and had four hours
to prep the game room.
this was pretty much the entry point of introducing a group member's new character.

i really didn't have anything planned except to harass the group with ghosts and specters
...and giant rats.


Henley enters the dinner room only to be greeted by a log dead servant.


Usagi enters the ballroom and finds a specter aggressively playing the piano.
during this encounter i had my laptop opened to yYutube and playing some classical tunes,
but with the volume pretty loud so it makes an intense scene for the players. 


after defeating the music loving spirit,
the group became surrounded by some fairly mean looking rats.


towards the end, the adventurers were met by a very distinguished gentleman.....

earlier in the month i got some creatures done.
i had these for some time now and just wanted to get them painted and done.
first were these wild boars from Wizkids.


Thunk the Childlike hunts some boars for food.


next are these swarms of bugs and insects from Mantic Games.
wouldn't mind getting another box of critters that these came from.
these are really nice for Dungeons and Dragons.

Jon from our D&D group wanted to run a brand new character,
and i told him to let me know the details and i'll get a miniature ready.
he thought an elven dhampir would be pretty cool and i agree but it's how he is gonna portray
the character in the game that is gonna be great.

i used an elf ranger from the Wizkids Frameworks line and painted it oh so gothic, or tried to.

i managed to get a set of fences for my wild west and i figured i'd give them some paint for the
Season of Scenery challenge. just a few more pieces of scatter terrain and i'll be happy.


i always end a post with "more to come..."
but ever since i have been reading the Forbidden Psalm rulebook,
i fell down a rabbit hole of gaming...yay me!

    Sy to hear about real life consuming so much time, and hope your girlfriend is feeling better. Excellent looking creatures for your adventures, and those fences will be very useful for your wild west scenery, and there is nothing wrong with more gaming ! LOL

      she is doing better, now seems like i got a chest cold myself. argh.
      i got some time off coming up next month so might have some time to line up some solo games.

    Yeah, real life doesn't account for our fantasy lives.
    Those manor house rooms look great, and I always like looking at your D&D minis

      Tenfold Dungeon makes nice sets. i've been eyeing a few more new sets that came out this year.

more miscellaneous miniatures for D&D

 just some pictures of some more interesting creatures and characters i was able to get on the table for another successful D&D adventure last weekend. some heroes battle a hill giant. ever come across a figure you weren't looking for in particular but a light bulb went off in your head and all of a sudden you needed one. i was looking for a giant figure and then saw this fellow. a prepainted hill giant from Wizkids. he's not very large compare to other giants so in my head i figured this fellow could be a hill giant that has a strength of hundred men, but the mentality of a five year old. another figure to add to my evil wizards collection i currently have going on. this miniature is another from Next Level Miniatures. "I have taken notice that the elf is still alive, so once again you have failed us." painted this goblin mage with the traditional green skin and also a Next Level Miniature. needed some desert animals, i found some toy elephants at my local Wal-Ma...

lrn2play: Forbidden Psalm

for some time now i came across Forbidden Psalm from videos on Youtube and also reading about the role-playing game, MÖRK BORG. and i didn't think much of it but as time went on i kept becoming more curious about it. i began watching actual game-play videos to get a grasp on the table-top game. i think what attracts me to Forbidden Psalm is that it can be a fantasy game and i can get more out of my Dungeons and Dragons miniatures. i bought and downloaded a pdf copy of the rules and gave it a read and sat down and created a warband. i can say i would give it an A+ for putting together a creative rulebook but it is not printer friendly, so i might get a physical copy somewhere down the road. one thing that i find funny is that for the most part you use a 20 sided die. there are times you use other types of dice but for everything mainly for gameplay it's a d20. another thing about this game that i find interesting is that everything (for the majority) has a difficulty roll of 12....
