beginners intro of Perilous Tales co/op

this past weekend i got a chance to introduce my girl to the game Perilous Tales.
poor woman has been hearing about it for weeks now,
so i threw some terrain on the table and off we went.

layout of the table.
a nice 2x2 gaming area, one of the perks of Perilous Tales...
small gaming area.

teams were consisted of:

Husani Ba (leader, traits: Brute, Tough, and Photographer (per objective))
Garrett Cunningham, pilot of the Screaming Rooster (teammate, trait: Handy)
Hando Solomon (teammate, trait: Eagle Eyed)

Rita Lynn (leader, traits: Sneaky )
Thornton Lee (teammate, trait: Marksman)
Colonial Edgar Chapman IV, British Army, Ret. (teammate, trait: Medic)

objectives for the game.

didn't take whole mess of pics this time,
but from what i did here are some highlights.

with the set-up of threat markers as they were,
we were cautious not to set off too many at the same time.
we did managed though spawning a few cultists in one turn.

Rita trying her best to sneak and not set off any threat markers.
having the Sneaky trait does pay off.

using Hando to take a peek at near by threat markers,
couldn't find the main minion, the cult leader, Jafar Alhazred.

rolling horribly on threat,
the cult leader is revealed....

...and more cultists are summoned.
the heroes found themselves in a pickle.
had to do some horror check rolls and Rita Lynn and Colonial Edgar Chapman IV failed
and fled a bit away from harm's way.

regrouping and trying to get back to task on hand.
Husani Ba is dealing with Jafar and the duo of Cunningham and Thornton Lee
are cleaning up the remaining cultists.

the evil cult leader is down for the count!

trying to get our other objectives done before turn 10.
which because of two perils in play either we were failing skill checks or taking damage.

my last hope of getting one of our objectives completed came to an end,
when Husani Ba was dealt fatal damage from a peril effect.

overall Rita had a great time playing this.
she said she liked ow the threat markers move and gives the game a nerve wrenching
feeling while playing which i agree,
and then on top of that trying to stay alive by defending yourself and
getting objectives completed.

total score was 5/10 which i've had worst but most of all we had fun,
and that's all that matters.

  1. The game sounds excellent, and I've downloaded a copy of the play-test rules as a result. Thanks for covering the game.

    1. your welcome. I think this is probably my favorite game so far. I'm looking for more solo games to look into.

  2. Great game - I haven't done it co-op yet, but even without much success it sounds like it was a great time.

    1. co-op is fun, it gets tedious though with another person if you don't wanna die. haha
