damn this cold weather

ever since this brittle arctic air swept over the east coast here in the United States
i have lost all motivation to do any painting or anything.
only played a handful of Dungeons and Dragons with the group and
managed to get a handful of MotU figures ready to be painted,
but being so cold i haven't even thought of picking up a paintbrush.
and work isn't helping with the upcoming schedule changes,
i feel like i won't get anything completed for the Paint What You Got challenge.
to get me through this winter hell i did manage to come across a new game called
Deth Wizards from Snarling Badger Studios.
and i can't get enough of this game being a well written solo or 1v1 game.

even though i said i was gonna paint my MotU figures for the PWYG challenge,
i did manage to get a hold of some plastic sprues of Frostgrave soldiers and cultists to make
the npc characters for Deth Wizards and hopefully if the weather cooperates i'll get them
painted quickly and in time for the challenge deadline.
every time i find something i really enjoy i go head first into it,
and this game is my drug at the moment.
i know i went on about Silver Bayonet and other games i guess i could blame that on
some form of ADHD or OCD, i don't know.
anyways for about a week now i've been playing solo Deth Wizards and it's getting good.
i'm learning a lot of how to manage necrotic powers and managing minions in combat.
even with the solo mechanic it gets challenging at times.

with my last few games i've been playing more aggressively and throwing dead bodies into the
wind to see what sticks and what doesn't work.
during this week of gameplay i was able to recruit a ghost which i am not thrilled with.
i am in the process of recruiting a new vampire and maybe another death knight.
i know if with right stats and spells the death knight is a tank to deal with.
for one of my games i needed to set up buildings but i didn't actually have buildings to use,
so i used the "buildings" from the Tenfold Dungeon "the Town" set.
and despite not having roofs so say, it all worked out in the end.
it seems February is the most wasted month of the year when it comes to tabletop
gaming for me, either it's lack of getting figures painting or actually playing anything.
the weather truly can dictate how your day will turn out.
least for me.
Frostgrave minis sound just right for cold weather hobbying.
ReplyDeleteNot great for actually applying paints, varnish etc though.
Stick with it, February will soon be over.
thanks buddy.
DeleteSorry to hear that the weather on your side of the pond has been so disrupting, hopefully it will warm up soon for you over there. Sounds like you are enjoying the latest game, at the moment, and there is nothing wrong with moving from one gaming system to another, or as one of the other bloggers calls it being a hobby butterfly, flitting from one project too another as the mood takes you ! LOL Look forward to seeing the Frostgrave miniatures once finished.
ReplyDeleteI'm a hobby butterfly hah.
Deletehopefully I can get those frostgrave miniatures done before the challenge deadline.
The cold is absolutely agonizing right now. I've been dressing in layers and wearing wool socks to sit at my painting bench, and even then I can only manage 30-minute sprints. And no outlets to plug a space heater in nearby!
ReplyDeleteyeah this cold is crap.
Deletejust sitting in my game room trying to play a game is like sitting inside an igloo.
